About the Project

As part of a Design/Build Team, MBTW was engaged as the Prime Consultant responsible for the delivery of design and contract administration services related to the construction of an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Class II track and field venue suitable as a host competition facility for the 2022 Canada Summer Games.  Located on the campus of Brock University, this facility program is geared towards competition/events for elite track and field athletes.  The venue includes:

  • (1) 400m / 8-Lane Track (standard layout) - internal slot drain on inner curb, a two-colour synthetic running surface with Hobart finish.

  • (1) Natural Turf Infield - custom rootzone suitable for throwing events (landing zone)

  • (2) Long Jump / Triple Jump – synthetic runway surface with integrated jump boards and double ended sand pits.

  • (1) Pole Vault – synthetic runway surface with double ended landing zones.

  • (1) Javelin Runway - synthetic runway surface

  • (1) Hammer / Discus – concrete pad, rings, and cage.

  • (2) Shot Put Pads – concrete pad and rings

  • (1) High Jump Area - synthetic runway surface

  • (1) Steeplechase – inside the inner lane

Track and field work was coordinated with surrounding construction activities associated with the larger $100-million host facility construction.
