About the Project
Crosstown by Aspenridge Homes is a landmark master-planned community located on the former Celestica Campus at the heart of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT development. At its centre, Big Bear Park serrves as a key public space within the community, offering 3,120 m² of vibrant, multi-functional parkland designed to foster connection, recreation, and access to nature. The park design was informed by extensive community engagement and integrates a variety of program elements, including:
A playground with junior and senior play structures, slides, swings, and stand-alone play features
Two seating areas, one featuring shade structures
A network of connected pathways, including a key pedestrian link to Eglinton Avenue and the West Don Trail via Moriyama Drive
MBTW provided comprehensive landscape architecture services, including conceptual design, 30%, 60%, and 90% detailed design development, 100% construction documentation, and contract administration. The design intent focused on creating a cohesive and distinct landscape framework for the entire Crosstown community including the Crosstown Park Block South and POPS spaces.
The scope of work also included retaining and integrating heritage stonework from pre-existing site structures and collaborating with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to protect and enhance the surrounding sensitive natural environment.
